SS Joseph & Swithun Parish launches a compassionate bereavement support group, offering prayerful listening, friendship and confidential support to all.
Coping with death and bereavement can be a lonely and bewildering experience in today’s society. Although grief is a personal thing, it can sometimes be helpful to talk to others who are in a similar situation.
The Bereavement Group at SS Joseph & Swithun Parish consists of volunteers (all DBS checked) who are trained in listening to the bereaved and have been DBS checked. Together with a priest, we seek to provide a comfortable, supportive and confidential environment.
The sessions are founded in our Christian faith. Whether your personal loss is recent or long ago, we welcome you with open hearts.
Everyone is included, including those in our parish who may have suffered loss through miscarriage or stillbirth, or if supporting a family member or friend who is terminally ill.
Our volunteers do not provide one-to-one counselling, but facilitate an opportunity to talk freely about personal loss, listening to others and perhaps sharing your own experience.
At each session we will start with a welcome, followed by a reflection through prayer. We will also outline some ‘ground rules’ to ensure confidentiality and address expectations within the group. There will also be an opportunity for informal chats over a tea/coffee break.
If you wish to join us or to find out more, please contact the Parish Office or email: bromley@rcaos.org.uk.
We will also be including brief details in the Parish Newsletter which will include the details of the date and time of each session.
